Aerojet Selected for Contract Award to Support Critical Missile Defense Program SACRAMENTO, Calif., Dec. 19, 2003 -- Aerojet, a GenCorp Inc. (NYSE: GY) company, was selected for contract award by a Northrop Grumman and Raytheon Company team to provide the kill vehicle Liquid Divert and Attitude Control System (DACS) in support of the Kinetic Energy Interceptors (KEI) contract. On December 3, the U.S. Missile Defense Agency awarded a Northrop Grumman-led team a $4.5 billion prime contract for the KEI program, to provide the United States with the ability to destroy hostile missiles at their most vulnerable stage, the boost/ascent phase of flight. The team is now moving forward with developing and testing this critical boost phase element of the Agencys global layered missile defense system. Our work on KEI will translate to deploying a visible deterrent, further solidifying the United States Ballistic Missile Defense System. Aerojets DACS for the kill vehicle was designed at the companys Sacramento-based headquarters. We have applied our well known controls technology to develop propulsion subsystems that will assure critical mission success. KEI will complement the other boost, midcourse and terminal defense interceptor programs currently under development while providing a land-based capability that can be adapted quickly and easily to sea-based platforms.
