Aerojet to Conduct Solid Rocket Motor Test

SACRAMENTO, Calif., October 29, 2001 – Aerojet, a GenCorp Inc. (NYSE: GY) company, will conduct a major milestone test of its Atlas V rocket motor the morning of Wednesday, October 30, 2002. Scheduled for 9:00 a.m., the test could take place any time between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. as warranted by local weather conditions.

If last minute conditions prohibit testing on Wednesday, October 30, the test will be rescheduled for either Thursday, October 31 or Friday, November 1, pending appropriate conditions.

In light of the October 23, 2002, FBI terrorism caution for Sacramento, some communities may become guarded over noise generated by the test. This test will produce a loud, steady roar (lasting approximately 95 seconds) that may be heard within a 15-mile radius of Aerojet’s facility, located south of Highway 50 at Hazel Avenue. During the test, some vibration may be felt and smoke will rise into the air in areas adjacent to the facility.

To help prevent unnecessary alarm, the company has undertaken an extensive grass-roots effort to alert media outlets, local law enforcement, community groups and individuals, Chambers of Commerce, local elected officials and school districts in order to inform their constituencies of the upcoming test.

The Atlas V test is a fixed, stationary test, and not a launch. The test marks the second of three qualification motor firings and reflects a number of new design features that will enhance the robustness of the motor for its application on Atlas V.
