SACRAMENTO, Calif., April 25, 2007 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- Aerojet, a GenCorp Inc. (NYSE: GY) company, completed a successful demonstration of its MK 104 second-stage rocket motor in a Missile Defense Agency/Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) test over the Pacific Ocean. Aerojet is building MK 104 solid rocket motors for the Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) under a contract with Raytheon Company.

The Aegis BMD system, of which the SM-3 is a part, is designed to intercept and destroy ballistic missiles outside the earth's atmosphere. In addition to the MK 104, Aerojet is also in the process of qualifying the MK 72 first-stage boost motor for future flight tests for the SM-3 missile.
