Aerojet’s THAAD Booster Scores Second Successful Intercept over Pacific Range
Aerojet, a GenCorp Inc. (NYSE: GY) company, again demonstrated its Boost Motor capabilities when the U.S. Missile Defense Agency and Lockheed Martin conducted another flight test of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defense system, successfully intercepting a target over the Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF) on Kauai, HI. A previous intercept test was conducted at PMRF on Jan. 19, 2007.
This third hit-to-kill intercept test demonstrated THAAD's effectiveness against “realworld” threats.
Once deployed, its ability to provide increased protection for American citizens, troops and regional population centers will significantly improve the nation’s missile defense capabilities.
Aerojet provides the Boost Motor for the THAAD system. "This test highlighted the capability of the THAAD system to intercept increasingly difficult targets under highly realistic threat scenario conditions,” says Dick Bregard, Aerojet vice president of Defense Programs.
The THAAD interceptor is the only missile defense system that engages threat ballistic missiles traveling within and outside of the earth’s atmosphere.
