JPL Associate Director, Dr. Firouz Naderi to Deliver Keynote Address at the 42nd Joint Propulsion Conference, Sponsored by Aerojet

SACRAMENTO, Calif., June 19, 2006 -- Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) Associate Director, Dr. Firouz Naderi, will deliver the keynote address for the 42nd AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference and Exhibit at the Convention Center Exhibit Hall in Sacramento on July 10, 2006. Dr. Naderi will provide his vision for the future of space exploration in the first decades of the twenty-first century.

The 42nd Joint Propulsion Conference (JPC), sponsored by Aerojet and organized by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), will be a stimulating four-day long event, July 9-12, which will bring international experts in propulsion technology together and provide career growth opportunities for the expected fifteen hundred attendees. The conference program includes over 140 technical sessions and special panels featuring prominent speakers addressing NASA's space exploration initiatives, Mars mission programs, Deep Space flight programs, Entrepreneurial Prized Competitions, Propulsion History and an AIAA Awards Luncheon address given by former Apollo and Space Shuttle Astronaut Rear Admiral Ken (TK) Mattingly, USN (Ret).

Dr. Naderi currently leads project formulation and strategy for JPL and has led the Mars Exploration program aimed at searching for past or present life on Mars. During his tenure, three successful missions orbited or landed on Mars, including the two recent Mars rovers, Spirit and Opportunity. In his 27-year career at JPL, Dr. Naderi has played a lead role in program and project management for satellite communications systems, Earth remote sensing observatories, astrophysical observatories and planetary systems. He is an Associate Fellow of the AIAA and the recipient of NASA's Outstanding Leadership Medal; Space Technology Hall of Fame Medal; NASA's Distinguished Service Medal; 2005 Ellis Island Medal of Honor; and many other distinguished awards.
