Aerojet Opens New Manufacturing Facility
SACRAMENTO, Calif., July 7, 2005 -- Aerojet, a GenCorp Inc. company, today unveiled a new manufacturing facility in Socorro, NM. The new facility, built in just five months, will be used for the production of fire suppression systems designed to be used in Ford Motor Company’s Crown Victoria Police Interceptor.
The fire suppression production facility is situated on Aerojet-leased land at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (New Mexico Tech). Aerojet has other manufacturing operations for military contracts on New Mexico Tech land.
Aerojet developed a unique fire suppression technology for Ford and has built a production assembly line in the new facility. Production of the fire suppression systems for Ford is now underway.
In a ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier today, Aerojet Executive Vice President Scott Neish announced the addition of 10 new full-time jobs to support the new fire suppression production line.“Aerojet’s production line brings significant value to the Socorro area with these new high-tech jobs,” Neish said. “We are pleased to have the full support of the New Mexico state government, and a recent grant through the Economic Development Department for training these new hires signifies the importance this state is placing on attracting good work for good people.”
